Today Grand Central Terminal in New York City kicks off its second annual Life’s A Picnic in Grand Central, which features free indoor public picnic space in in the iconic train station, as well as live entertainment and demos every day during lunch and dinner times. As part of the celebrations, Michael Jordan’s The Steak House N.Y.C., will debut its new “Bar Burger,” replete with melted cheddar and lush, sweet, and tangy onions braised with New York State Ommegang Nut Brown Ale. Executive Chef Cenobio Canalizo who initially created the burger during a recent benefit for City Harvest, the world’s first food rescue organization, will be giving demos, showing how to create the Bar Burger starting at 11 am, but he also shared the recipe with us.
2 Lbs Ground Beef
Braised Onions
2 Slices White Spanish Onions
2 Tbsp Melted Butter
1 Cup New York State Ommegang Nut Brown Ale
2 Sprigs Fresh Thyme
Salt and Pepper to Taste
Cheddar cheese
Method:
Melt butter in large sauté pan over medium heat. Add the onions and toss to coat with butter. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and stir occasionally for 10 minutes until onions are a golden color. Add the beer and herbs and continue to cook for 5 more minutes until caramelized.
Step 1: Form 4 - 8oz burgers and season with kosher salt and pepper and cook to desired temperature
Step 2: Top with cheddar cheese and beer braised onions
Step 3: Place cheeseburger and onions on Martin’s bun
