Simple Steamed Artichokes

Step 1
2 each • Artichokes
2 each • Garlic cloves
1 each • Bay leaf
1 each • Lemon slice
Start by taking a slice off of the top and then cut off the bottom excess stem. Next, using a kitchen scissor, snip off the thorns on each petal tip and remove the small petals at the base. Now give them a good rinse being sure to pull apart the petals to let the water run through.
Step 2
Use a large pot with a steam basket. To the pot, add a couple of inches of water, garlic, bay leaf and lemon. Place the steam basket in pot. Place artichokes in the basket and cover pot. Bring to a boil and then lower to a simmer.

Cook for 25 to 45 minutes depending on artichoke size. They are done when petals can be easily pulled off.
