Spotlight On: Smart Catch and the James Beard Foundation

Spotlight on the James Beard Foundation's joined effort with Smart Catch. The ultimate goal of this program is for the seafood on a restaurants menu to be at least 80% sustainable.

The Smart Catch program allows chefs to confidently serve seafood that is farmed or farmed in environmentally responsible manners. Too many of the world's fisheries are overfished and there's a great need to preserve marine life. The program was created by chefs to increase sustainability of the seafood supply chain. Training and support is key in helping with this. Restaurants and chefs that go through the program earn the Smart Catch emblem. This helps the consumer with the their choice of where to dine and support the restaurants that follow this protocol.
