I feel tremendous pride when I hear a chef speak about our beloved Veggie U program, which is our non profit children’s education program. It’s a program that was developed with input of chefs and a group of area master teachers who volunteered their free time to formulate a curriculum teaching an Earth to Table concept to 4th graders. Kids learn about the importance of healthy eating, sustainable agriculture and how fun it can be to harvest what you grow with your own hands! Often times an area chef will donate time at a local school for “harvest day” and help the kids prepare something extra special. Everyone loves this program and kids really do get excited about making good food choices.
Our 9th annual fundraiser, the Veggie U Food & Wine Celebration, is this July 16th. Chefs from all over the country pour into The Culinary Vegetable Institute at The Chef’s Garden to donate their time and talent to support Veggie U.
It is our goal to have our kits in every 4th grade classroom across the country, but that takes a lot of dollars. We hope to have you out to the farm to kick up your heels at our Veggie U Food & Wine Celebration! Visit www.veggieufoodandwine.com
Or if you are interested in helping support the event in anyway, just drop me a line. Without you, our chefs, this program would not be here. Thank you chefs!
