Recent NYC legislation mandating paid sick leave for all workers in NYC has been very controversial in the restaurant industry. Line cooks and food service workers have argued for the right afforded so many other businesses, and restaurant owners say it's simply unaffordable. Well, Mayor Michael Bloomberg agrees with the business owners, saying he will try to veto the legislation if it makes it to his desk.
"It would be a disaster if the government tries to get in to run small businesses. If they run the bars and restaurants, they'll try to run everything else. This is going down a path which is a terrible, terrible idea and would be disastrous for New York City." -Mayor Michael Bloomberg
Currently the bill has enough backing to override the mayor's veto.
