Georgia has closed their oyster fishing in state waters from 1-June to 30-Sept due to the threat of vibrio parahaemolyticus sometimes found in raw oysters (cooking kills it). Also South Carolina has delayed the start of their shrimp season due to this past year's cold winter. Preliminary reports indicate that the unusually cold winter might have killed half of the S.C. shrimp stocks. Shrimp season begins today, two weeks later than normal.
