First we felt the tomato market rise, now crawfish farmers in Louisiana are reporting hard hit harvests. They're only pulling in about 30% of their average crawfish catch this year due to the winter's weather; when it gets too cold the crawfish burrow into the mud and stop eating. Now that it's harvest time, the majority are too small to harvest.
Many Louisiana crawfish farmers are reconsidering their business and making a move to planting rice, a much less temperamental crop.
