A Portland Oregon woman is suing McDonald's for spilled hot coffee. She's seeking less than the Albuquerque NM woman of the famous McDonald's spilled coffee suit in 1994 (where the jury awarded $2.86 million), asking for $7,182 for her pain and suffering, plus another $318 for lost wages and medical expenses.
The current suit states, "as it was being handed to her by an employee of the defendant, the plaintiff took the cup of coffee and the plastic top fell off and spilled very hot coffee on plaintiff's upper right leg..." and argues that despite measures McDonald's took after the 1994 suit to prevent serious burns, the coffee is still hot enough to send you to the hospital if you spill it on yourself.
