Patron Tequila began its competition on International Margarita Day to choose a unique version of the traditional cocktail. The winner was selected on April 16th from seven finalists, all with their own distinctive recipes.
The 2017 winner is the
Coralina Margarita by bartender Riesler Morales of Mexico City, Mexico. This floral, sophisticated take on the classic margarita pairs red wine and hibiscus along with Patron Reposado and Patron Citronge.
Morales was asked what his inspiration was for the award winning cocktail and he responded, “My drink is inspired by a story of two people who meet abruptly on a beach. The woman, Coralina, spots the man of her dreams on this beach. They meet and fall in love. The color of my cocktail represents the love they saw for the first time – it’s a story of love.”
The artisan cocktail crafter took the crown with his whimsical creation by garnering the most votes against some tough competition such as the English Garden Margarita and the High Plains Margarita. Morales has also won numerous international bartending competitions including Bols Around the World in 2012.
