Hurricane Sandy may have been months ago, but the hard effects of the destruction are still being felt and dealt with in New York City. In order to raise funds to aid storm victims, Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group and wine director and Master Sommelier John Ragan have organized an online wine auction to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief efforts by the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. “After Hurricane Sandy, the community of NYC restaurant employees worked hard to get our restaurants and our lives back to normal, but many of our fellow New Yorkers are still suffering from the aftermath of Sandy,” said Ragan. “Although the storm may have since slipped out of the headlines, this is when many New Yorkers need our help the most.” The auction went live this week and is open through April 7th. Up for grabs are some impressive wines, wine based spirits like Cognac and Armagnac, dinners with wine folks like Eric Asimov, Antonio Galloni, Jancis Robinson & Nick Lander, and Jay JMcInerney, a victory dinner at the Red Hook Winery, and wine experiences in Napa,Valley and Washington State. Check out the items at De-vineIntervention.com and bid early and often.
